lesson 1.1 Nomenclature of Hydrocarbon Flashcards
There is 2 types saturated and unsaturated
Hydrocarbon
Contain only carbon-carbon
single bonds
Saturated Hydrocarbons
Contain one or more carbon-carbon double bonds, triple bonds, or benzene rings
Unsaturated Hydrocarbons
Under Saturated hydrocarbons it also only contains carbon-carbon single bonds and it do not have multiple bonds. Contain the maximum number of hydrogen atoms that the carbon compound can possess.
Alkanes
Give the tree branch under Unsaturated Carbon
Alkenes, Alkynes and Arenes
One or more carbon double bonds
Alkenes
one or more carbon triple bonds
Alkynes
One or more benzene like rings
Arenes
General formula of Alkanes
CnH2n+2
Say the parent name of the number of carbon atoms ( C1 = meth)
meth, eth, prop, but, pent, hex, hept, oct, non, dec (1-10)
