how are most ordinals (3rd, 5th, 6th, etc.) formed?

A

**-adik, -edik, -odik, -ödik **endings after the number

  • Most use the ending you would expect based on the vowels in the word.
  • BUT once into the 10s, 20s, etc. the ending used does not depend on the vowels in tiz, husz, etc., only on the vowels in the last number…
    example: tizenharmadik (based on a in harm-) and huszonegyedik (based on e in egy)
