Why do government decisions not normally meet the needs of the local people?
Top down, people who make these decisions have often lived very different lives to the residents that they are planning for
What is political apathy?
People unwilling accept conditions they find themselves living in but feel powerless to do anything about it.
What are people with a lived experience to the area more likely to do?
Get involved in the community
How does age effect community engagement?
older people more likely to vote than younger
How does ethnicity effect community engagement?
Ethnic groups less likely to get involved
How does gender effect community engagement?
Fairly equal in amount of engagement
How does levels of deprivation effect community engagement?
Deprived areas have little involvement creating a cycle where they are more excluded
How does length of residence effect community engagement?
People who have lived in an area will have more lived experience and will be more concerned about their area and will want their voices heard
Why do deprived minority groups tend not to get involved in community engagement?
They are at risk of facing prejudice or exploitation
