lesson 1 scientific learning Flashcards
Define variable
The causative factor, character, or traits that have direct or indirect effects on the occurrence of an event or phenomenon is called variable.
Types of variables
- Dependent variable
- Independent variable
- Controlled variable
Define Dependent variable
Those variables which value depends on other variables and experimenter cannot predict it is called Dependent variable.
Define Independent Variable
Those variables whose value can be changed directly by the experimenter is called independent variable
Define controlled variables
Those variables which should be controlled in an experiment to get an accurate result in a change in specified variables are called controlled variables.
How many independent variable should be there is an experiment?
They should be only one independent variable in an experiment, to reduce the factors that change the result of the experiment (dependent variable) so we can get accurate results.
How many dependent variable should be there is an experiment?
There should be only one dependent variable.
What are the things to be considered in an experiment
- Other than specified dependent and independent variables other should be controlled
In which hand sides are the variables written? with example
- Dependent variables are written in left hand side whereas independent variables are written in right hand side.
eg : s= vt
While plotting in graph where are the dependent and independent variables are plotted?
Dependent variables are plotted in y-axis whereas independent variables are plotted in x-axis.
On the basis of where the variables are written or plotted, what are they known as ?
Dependent variable - left variable, vertical variable
independent variable - right variable, horizontal variable.
Why is dependent and independent variables plotted in graph?
Dependent and independent variables are plotted in graph in order to see how the change in independent variables brings change in dependent variables.
Define fundamental unit
Those units which do not depend on other units and cannot be expressed further into more simpler form are called fundamental units.
How many independent units are there and what are they?
There are 7 fundamental units and they are:
1. length - metre
2. mass - kilogram
3. time - seconds
4. temperature - kelvin
5. electric current - Ampere
6. Luminous intensity - candela
7. Amount of sustance - mole
What are derived units?
The unit of measurement which depend on fundamental units are called derived units.
