Lesson 1 - Microscope Flashcards
any technique for producing visible images of structures or details too small to otherwise be seen by the human eye, using a microscope or other magnification tool.
Microscopy
Instrument used to magnify objects that cannot be seen by the naked/unaided eye.
Microscope
Light Microscope
is generally used to observe
microorganisms and sections of plants and animals

eyepiece lens
this is where you look through
Compound Microscope
It is an instrument that has two lenses (set of two lenses) these lenses is objectives and ocular.
Arm
It is in the back of the microscope and supports the objectives and ocular.
Base
bottom of the scope, it houses the light source, act as a handle to carry the scope
Illuminator
light source of the microscope.
Objective Lens
lens that is closest to the specimen.
Oil immersion Lens
This is a 100x (100 times) objective lens.
Revolving Nosepiece
holds two or more objective lenses and can be rotated to easily change power
Coarse Adjustment Knob
used to bring the specimen into general focus. It moves the stage up and down
Fine adjustment knob
makes smaller, more precise adjustments for fine focusing
Objective Lenses
primary optical lenses on a microscope that gather light from the specimen and magnify its image.
It provides the lowest magnification and the widest field of view
Scanning objective
Low power objective
refers to the 10x objective lens. It provides a moderate magnification and is often used after the scanning objective to observe the specimen in more detail.
High power objective
referring to the 40x objective lens. It offers a higher level of magnification for viewing finer details of the specimen.
