Q

Evaluation of Deviation From Social Norms (-)

A
  • 1) DFSM is not always indicative of abnormality.
  • Psychologists must be careful when making judgements as behaviour may be odd/eccentric but not abnormal
  • e.g streaking is odd but does not imply that the person is abnormal and is mentally disturbed
  • 2) Context must be taken into consideration
  • e.g cultural differences, Japan finds it rude to walk whilst eating. (Tibetan women marrying multiple men)
  • e.g wearing no clothes in a nudist beach is normal but wearing no clothes on the street is abnormal
