Lesson 1 Flashcards
What are two ways to go about simplifying exponential expressions?
- Make all of the exponents positive by moving them either to the denominator or numerator
- Bring everything into the numerator
What is an exponential expression?
A fraction with letters or numbers that have exponents
What does anything to the zeroth power equal?
one
When dividing the same base numbers with exponents, what do you do with the exponents?
You subtract them. (Think of it like the base number is what kind and the exponent is how many)
When multiplying the same base numbers with exponents, what do you do with the exponents?
You add them. (Think of it like the base number is what kind and the exponent is how many)
What do you do to the exponent when you move a number from the numerator to the denominator or vice versa?
You reverse the sign of the exponent
What do you do to raise the power of an exponent?
you multiply it by the other exponent
