An access control list (ACL) is a list of permissions attached to an object.

The act of recording specific actions that are taken within a secure network operating system.
Auditing is often used by administrators as a security measure to provide for accountability.
Typical audited events include logon and logoff events as well as accessing files and objects.

Distribution groups do not have security identifiers (SIDs).
Distribution group
An Active Directory security or distribution group that can contain universal groups, global groups, or accounts from anywhere within an Active Directory forest.
Domain local group
An Active Directory object that is used to assign and maintain security settings.
The primary security principals are users, groups, and computers.
