Who
Quel (Quelle, Quels, Quelles)
Which, What
(agree in number and gender with noun being described)
Avec quel (quelle, quels, quelles)
With which
(In this case, the “which” must be followed by a noun.
ex: Avec quel livre est-ce que tu étudies? With which book do you study?)

Quoi
What
(Used by itself as a one-word, albeit impolite, question. Used after prepositions such as “avec”, and “sans”.)
Avec quoi
With what
(In this case, the “what” cannot be followed directly by a noun.
ex: Avec quoi est-ce que tu étudies? With what do you study?)
Est-ce que
Is, Are, Do, Does
IMPORTANT: The magic expression “Est-ce que” turns a regular statement in to a question. However, the “is, are, do, does” that this expression adds does NOT replace the verb already in the question. Example: Est-ce qu’il est beau? = Is he good-looking? The need for “est” is still there even though the “Est-ce que” is present.
