Le Festival de Cannes
It takes place every year in May since 1939. The main prize is la Palme d’or.
Les César
The Academy of Cinema, Art, and Technical Awards holds the Cesar every year since 1976. It’s comparable to the Oscars in America. A winner receives a statue of Cesar.
Le Prix Lumière
This prize is awarded by members of the foreign press. The Lumière brothers were pioneers of the cinema at the end of the nineteenth century.
Le Prix Méliès
It is awarded by the French Syndicat of the Critic of Cinema and is rewarded to the best French film of the year. Georges Méliès was a filmmaker at the beginning of the century.
Le Prix Louis-Delluc
This award (awarded every year since 1937) crowns the best French film of the year. Louis Delluc (1890-1924) was a filmmaker and considered the founder of cinematic criticism.
L’Académie Nationale du Cinéma
Was founded in 1982 and has 40 members (all film personalities) who award their prizes each year.
