For several hours, traffic on the D1 highway in the direction of Prague was disrupted by an accident involving 50 passenger cars. The drivers crashed in a forested section between the 118th and 112th kilometers due to a snow shower. No one lost their life in the accident. Most of the injured were treated by paramedics at the scene. At 6:00 p.m., traffic resumed in a single lane, and only around 10:30 p.m. was the highway passable in both directions.
Na několik hodin přerušila provoz na dálnici D1 směrem na Prahu nehoda 50 osobních aut. Řidiči zde havarovali v lesním úseku mezi 118. a 112. kilometrem kvůli sněhové přeháňce. Při nehodě nepřišel nikdo o život. Většinu zraněných ošetřili záchranáři na místě. V 18 hodin se začalo jezdit jedním jízdním pruhem a teprve kolem 22:30 začala být dálnice průjezdná v obou směrech.
A 50-year-old cyclist, who was riding on a bike path on Tuesday, had a dog run into her path. The woman fell off her bike and was seriously injured. The dog was not injured. The owner of the animal faces a fine, as she is responsible for allowing the dog to run freely on the bike path. She will have to pay all the cyclist’s medical expenses.
Padesátileté cyklistce, která jela v úterý po cyklostezce, vběhl do cesty pes. Žena spadla z kola a vážně se zranila. Pes žádné zranění neutrpěl. Majitelce zvířete hrozí pokuta. Je totiž odpovědná za to, že nechala zvíře volně běhat po cyklostezce. Bude tak muset cyklistce zaplatit veškeré náklady na léčbu.
At the 153rd kilometer of the D1 highway, a truck driver collided with a passenger car. A breath test revealed that the driver had a blood alcohol level of three per mille. The police immediately banned him from further driving, took away his driver’s license, and transported him to a detox center in Jihlava, where he spent the night. Since the driver caused the accident due to intoxication, he faces up to three years in prison.
Na 153. kilometru dálnice D1 se střetl řidič kamionu s osobním autem. Při dechové zkoušce zjistila policie v jeho dechu tři promile alkoholu. Policisté proto okamžitě zakázali řidiči další jízdu, vzali mu řidičský průkaz a zavezli ho na záchytku v Jihlavě, kde strávil noc. Poněvadž řidič způsobil v důsledku opilosti nehodu, hrozí mu až tři roky vězení.
During an accident involving a Czech AVBus company bus, one of the company’s drivers died last night in Croatia. The bus, which was carrying tourists to the Adriatic Sea, veered into a ditch and overturned. Several passengers on the bus suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident. The Croatian police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Při havárii českého autobusu společnosti AVBus zahynul v noci na dnešek v Chorvatsku jeden z řidičů této společnosti. Autobus, který vezl turisty k Jaderskému moři, sjel do příkopu a převrátil se. Několik cestujících v autobuse utrpělo následkem nehody lehčí zranění. Chorvatská policie příčinu nehody vyšetřuje.
On Thursday, hundreds of African refugees drowned near the southern Italian island of Lampedusa in a shipwreck. Rescuers have so far discovered around 200 bodies. More than 90 victims were found by divers inside the wreck at a depth of 40 meters. According to the island’s mayor, the boat began to sink due to its poor technical condition, and the passengers started a fire on board to call for help. They lit blankets, which then ignited fuel oil, causing the entire boat to catch fire and sink.
Ve čtvrtek se utopily u jihoitalského ostrova Lampedusa stovky afrických uprchlíků při lodní nehodě. Záchranáři zatím objevili kolem 200 těl. Více než 90 obětí našli potápěči uvnitř vraku lodi v hloubce 40 metrů. Podle starosty ostrova se loď začala potápět kvůli špatnému technickému stavu a pasažéři rozdělali na palubě oheň, aby přivolali pomoc. Zapálili proto deky. Od dek chytla motorová nafta a loď začala hořet celá a potopila se.

Another 14 passengers, who were traveling in both vehicles, were injured. According to witnesses, the accident was caused by the trolleybus driver, who entered the intersection on a red light.
V pondělí večer v Brně v Černých Polích narazila tramvaj číslo 9 do trolejbusu číslo 37. Při srážce vyletěl zadním oknem ven starší muž, který na místě zemřel. Dalších 14 cestujících, kteří cestovali v obou dopravních prostředcích, se zranilo. Podle svědků způsobil nehodu řidič trolejbusu, který vjel do křižovatky na červenou.

Pětačtyřicetiletý muž skočil krátce po nedělní půlnoci pod vagón metra ve stanici Dejvická. Když souprava zastavila, vylezl ven z kolejiště bez zranění. Jelikož souprava metra byla poslední noční spoj, byla linka dočasně zastavena a nehoda se stala u konečné stanice, incident neměl žádný vliv na provoz metra.
Helicopters had to evacuate 250 people in the Alps who were left hanging in a cable car at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level. The transport of tourists took 2 hours and required 50 flights by two helicopters. The cable car accident was caused by a malfunction in the electric motor. Thanks to favorable weather conditions, none of the tourists suffered any health complications as a result of the incident.
Vrtulníky musely evakuovat v Alpách na 250 lidí, kteří zůstali viset v lanovce ve výšce 2300 metrů nad mořem. Přeprava turistů trvala 2 hodiny a bylo k ní potřeba 50 letů dvou vrtulníků. Nehodu lanovky způsobila porucha na elektrickém motoru. Díky příznivému počasí nezpůsobila nehoda nikomu z turistů žádné zdravotní komplikace.
A female driver of an Opel car drove onto a railway crossing at noon today just as a passenger train to Kolín was passing through. The woman was taken to the hospital by paramedics. No one on the train was injured. According to a spokesperson for the Czech Railways, the accident was caused by the driver because the railway’s light signaling system was functioning correctly.
Řidička osobního automobilu značky Opel dnes kolem poledne vjela na železniční přejezd ve chvíli, kdy tudy projížděl osobní vlak do Kolína. Ženu převezli záchranáři do nemocnice. Ve vlaku se nikdo nezranil. Podle mluvčího Českých drah nehodu zavinila řidička, neboť světelná signalizace na trati fungovala.
An Airbus A320 carrying 150 passengers and 5 crew members, which took off from New York’s LaGuardia Airport, collided with a flock of geese a minute and a half after takeoff. After the collision, the thrust in both engines dropped to a minimum, and the pilot reported an emergency return to the airport. At an altitude of 400 meters from the runway, however, the plane’s engine stopped working completely. After consulting with air traffic control, the pilot decided to land on the Hudson River. This maneuver was successful, and the pilot managed to prevent a disaster.
Airbus A320 se 150 pasažéry a 5 členy posádky, který startoval z newyorského letiště La Guardia, se minutu a půl po startu srazil s hejnem hus. Po srážce klesl v obou motorech tah na minimum a pilot hlásil návrat na letiště. Ve výšce 400 m od konců ranveje ale motor letadla přestal fungovat úplně. Po poradě s kontrolní věží se pilot rozhodl přistát na řece Hudson. Tento manévr byl úspěšný, a pilotovi se tak podařilo zabránit katastrofě.
