Makes it illegal to sell products underweight or smaller than stated
What is the consumer safety act?
Allows the Government to ban the sale of dangerous products
What is the consumer protection act?
Prevents the sale or harmful or defective products
What is the sale of goods act?
States that products must be fit for purpose
What is the food safety regulations and food safety act?
Provides guidance on food hygiene management
What is the food labelling regulations?
States that certain information must be included on labels

What is the kitemark?
British Standards Institute (BSI)
A standard is an agreed specification for a product or service
Kitemark scheme is an independent and ongoing assessment that the product conforms to the relevant standard
BSI standards are very precise and are considered a better standard than CE
What does CE stand for and who are they?
The Conformité Européenne
Tells you that the products meets a minimum requirement from the EU to allow it’s sale in the EU market
What do the Consumers’ Association publish?
‘Which?’ Magazine
In each addition, products are tested against other similar products and graded against criteria such as ‘value for money’
What is the trade description act?
Makes it illegal to make false claims about a product, has to be as it is described
