Leg And Foot Flashcards
Superior extensor retinacula
Med- ant border of tibia. Lat- ant border of fibula. Enclose tibialis anterior.
Inferior extensor retinacula
Stem: sup surface of calcaneum
Upper band: ant border of medial malleolus
Lower band: plantar aponeurosis.
Tibialis ant, extn hallucis longus, ant tibial vessels, deep peroneal nerve, extn digitorum longus, peroneus tertius
Anterior tibial artery
Smaller of popliteal, lower border of popliteus, interosseous, b/w 2 malleoli m- dorsalis pedis.
Tibialis ant&extn digi, then tibialis ant&extn hallucis, then extn hallucis&exnt digi
Branches: muscular, anastomotic, ant&post tibial recurrent, ant med&lat malleolar.
Muscles of anterior compartment of leg and dorsum of foot
Tibialis anterior: inferimedial surface of medial cuneiform, base of 1st metatarsal
Extn hallucis longus
Extn digi longus
Peroneus tertius: lower 1/4 fibula, mb; base of 5th metatarsal.
Extn digitorum brevis: ant part of sup surface of calcaneum, dorsal digital expansion, proximal phalanx
Deep peroneal nerve
Term of common peroneal, lat side of fibula, enter ant comp, pierce extn digi longus, accompany ant tibial artery. End on dorsum, lat&med terminal branches.
Branches: muscular, cutaneous, articular: ankle, tarsal, tarsometatarsal, metatarsophalangeal
Dorsalis pedis
1st intermetatarsal space, dips.
Superficial relations: skin, fascia, extn hallucis brevis
Deep: capsular lig of ankle joint, talus, navicular, intermed cuneiform. Med&lat
Branches: lat tarsal, med tarsal, arcuate- 2,3,4 dorsal metatarsal artery
1st dorsal metatarsal before dipping
Peroneal muscles
Peroneus longus: head of fib, upper 1/3; lat side of base of 1st metatarsal, med cuneiform.
Peroneus brevis: middle 1/3, lower; lat side of base of 5th metatarsal.
Superficial peroneal nerve
Peroneal artery.
Superior and inferior peroneal retinacula
Superior: lat malleolus, calcaneum
Inferior: ant surface of calcaneum, lateral surface of calcaneum
Superficial peroneal nerve
Smaller terminal branch, lat side of fibula, course, relations, branches: muscular, cutaneous, medial branch, lateral branch, communicating branch.
Guy ropes
Sartorius: ant comp, femoral nerve Gracilis: med comp, obturator nerve Semitendinosus: post comp, sciatic nerve Spread out to span pelvis, stabilise bony pelvis. Medial surface of tibia.
Anserine bursa
Large, complicated, several diverticula.
Sep tendons of guy ropes from one another, from bony surface, from tibial collateral ligament
Structures passing under the retinacula
