Lecture with Professor Flashcards
BP is an___________ measure because you can’t measure the actual pressure in the heart when its contracting and filling that’s really not feasible so its an indirect measure
indirect
Dependent on 2 things?
Cardiac output and resistance
If you just put a stethoscope on your arm am I going to hear anything why am I not going to hear anything its just flowing… you won’t hear anything until you inflate that cuff and it occludes the brachial artery and then as you release the pressure in that cuff then you start to hear it again and its just based on normal flowing your not going to hear anything it’s the pressure and it’s the resistance that is made by inflating the cuff that will allow you to hear the blood pressure and so the air into the cuff raises the pressure in the cuff.
The point where it disappears is your _______________
diastolic
The point where you hear two consecutive beats that’s your __________
systolic
Questions for the patient?
Have you had any caffeine or energy drinks in the last 30 minutes?
Have you done any physical activity or worked out in the last 30 to 60 minutes?
Have you smoking anything prior to coming in the last 30 minutes?
_________, ___________, physical are the 3 things to ask you patients?
How are you feeling? (Whats impacting your day?, you stressed)
caffeine, smoking
Don’t ask pt what there blood pressure is normally is because of bias
The cuff is over the __________ part of the arm,the bicep so we are below the deltoid and here they are a couple itches away from the armpit which I typically like to put a cuff on higher because it allows me to put the stethoscope on a bare arm without touching the bottom of the cuff
largest
If put a cuff too low and you put your stethoscope under a bare arm without touching the bottom of the cuff
If you put a cuff too low and you put a stethoscope under it then your going to hear it…its going to scratchy…its going to make some muffled sounds and you can miss the blood pressure so just tuck it a little bit higher for better stethoscope placement and they are just about under the cuff…you should not be not be touching that cuff at all…the stethoscope should not be touching the cuff
Stethoscope is aligned with the _________ artery and so your stethoscope placement is fine at the inside of your elblow
brachial
________ and ________ finger are used to take pulse
index and middle finger
Your going to measure how much its pulsating in 60 seconds because heart rate is measured in beats per minute
How many beats per minute which is 60 seconds
If I get 20 pulsations in 15 seconds what are my beats per minute? 20x4
