suicidal ideation
Thoughts about killing onself
suicidal attempt
To engage in self injurious behavior WITH THE INTENT to end one’s life. The person has STOPPED coping.
NSSI (cutting, burning, etc.)
To engage in self injurious behavior as a means of coping, many times the intent is not to end the life. NSSI is more done to be able to deal with the emotions and feelings that are coming up for that person. As long as they’re still coping, there is hope to get them to tx.
biological factors for suicide

family conflict, low parental monitoring

nursing outcomes for preventing suicide
pt. will have reduced hopelessness, increased self esteem, will identify triggers, will seek counseling.
