Lecture Exam 2 Stuff Flashcards
synarthroses
no movement allowed in joint
ex: sutures (fibrous) or synchondroses (cartilaginous)
syndesmosis
fibrous joint
dense collagen fibers connect bones
ex: interosseus membrane
synchondrosis
primary cartilaginous joint
hyaline cartilage present largely in development. Often under go synostosis.
ex: epiphiseal growth plate
symphysis
secondary cartilaginous joint
fibrocartilage joins bones
ex: pubic symphysis and intervertebral discs
synostosis
fusion of joint due to ossification of cartilage.
ex: sutures on skull or epiphyseal plates
amphiarthrosis
little movement allowed in joint
diartheosis
full movment allowed in joint.
fibrous joint types
sutures (in skull)
syndesmosis (interosseus membrane)
gomphosis (tooth socket in jaw)
cartilaginous joint types
synchondrosis (epiphyseal plate)
symphysis (pubic symphysis and intervertebral disc)
synovial joint types
plane (carpals of wrist) hinge (elbow) pivot (atlanto-axis joint of neck) ball and socket (hip or shoulder condylar (metacarpal to proximal finger phalanx) saddle (thumb joint)
