lecture and lab 1 [organ systems] Flashcards
skeletal system
protects and supports body organs, and provides framework the muscles use to cause movement. site of blood cell production and mineral storage
integumentary system
skin, hair, nails, sebaceous (oil) glands, sweat (sudoriferous) glands
endocrine system
serves to control body functions- glands in endocrine system secrete hormones that ravel through blood to organs and throughout the body
muscle system
produced bodily movement, generates heat with contractions
respiratory system
this system keeps the body’s cells supplied with oxygen and removed carbon dioxide as it’s released from cells (lungs house tiny air sacs called alveoli)
lymphatic system
consists of lymph nodes and lymph vessels that carry LYMPH [a clear fluid rich in antibodies]. The spleen, thymus, and the tonsils are made of lymphoid tissue. supports immune system by housing and transporting white blood cells to and from lymph notes. Also returns fluid that has leaked from the cardiovascular system back into the blood vessel
reproductive system
reproduce offspring - produce male sex cells [sperm] and female sex cells [oocytes]
urinary system
filters blood and removes waste products, concentrates these waste products in the form of urine, and expels urine from the body
components of the skeletal system
appendicular bones, axial bones, ligaments
components of the muscular system
appendicular muscles, axial muscles, tendons
components of the nervous system
brain, spinal cord, cranial nerves, spinal nerves
components of the endocrine system
pituitary gland, pineal gland, thyroid gland, adrenal gland
components of the cardiovascular system
heart, blood vessels
components of the lymphatic system
thymus, spleen, lymph notes
components of the respiratory system
nasal cavity, trachea, lungs
