Lecture: Anatomy of the Nervous System Flashcards
What are the names in the 3-vesicle stage?
Prosencephalon, Mesencephalon, Rhombencephalon
What does the prosencephalon differentiate into?
Telencephalon and Diencephalon
What does the mesencephalon differentiate into?
Mesencephalon –> Midbrain
What does the rhombencephalon differentiate into?
Metencephalon and Myelencephalon
What are the 3 layers of the meninges?
Dura mater, Arachnoid mater, and Pia mater (DAP mnemonic)
What are the 2 major arteries that supply blood to the brain?
Internal carotid artery and vertebral artery
Tracts
Axons within the CNS
Unipolar (pseudounipolar) neuron
have a peripheral axonal process and a central axonal process that travel in a straight line, connected to the cell body only by a stalk that does not function in signal propagation
Bipolar neuron
consist of one dendritic and one axonal process, with the cell body in-between. They are most often seen as the second neuron in sensory input layers (retina, olfactory bulb, etc.)
Multipolar neuron
contains several arborized dendritic inputs and one arborized axonal output arising from the cell body
