Alliteration
Repetition of phonetic sound.
Example: Lovely lions lick lemon lollipops.
Synonymous Parallelism
The second line repeats the first line.
Example:I AM CONFIDENT that you will guide me,
I AM CONFIDENT in your grace and mercy.
Antithetic Parallelism
The second line is opposite of the first line.
Example: Why do you FORCE me to lay awake,
instead of ALLOWING me to get rest?
Synthetic Parallelism
The second line continues the first line.
Example: Save me Lord, please save me,
Please save me from temptation.
Chiasm
The form of lines is ABBA.
Example: Surely you will not leave me on my own now.
Your sturdy hand will give me peace.
Your calming presence will save me from my restlessness.
Surely you will allow your servant a full night’s rest.
Acrostic
Each line begins with a successive letter.
And if the serpent should keep me awake,
Be sure to smite him with your mighty wrath.
Crush the demon.
Destroy the snake.
Simile
A comparison between two things using the words “like” or “as.”
Example: She eats like a pig.
Metaphor
Comparing something to another without using comparison words.
Example: She is a pig at the dinner table.

Accusing God.
Thanksgiving Psalm
Expression of gratitude.
Hymn Psalm
Expression of praise for who God is.
Penitential Psalm
Expression of repentance.

Coronation and celebration of kings.
