lecture 9 Flashcards
1
Q
what are the major sinuses between the dural layers?
A
straight sinus transverse sinus petrosal sinus inferior sagittal sinus superior sagittal sinus
2
Q
describe the flow of the CSF
A
lateral ventricle–>3rd ventricle–>4th ventricle –> subarachnoid space–>arachnoid granulations–>venous sinuses
3
Q
describe non-comm hydrocephalus
A
flow of CSF in ventricular system obstructed –> increased pressure in ventricles (still making CSF)
4
Q
describe communicating hydrocephalus
A
can’t absorb CSF –> flows freely in ventricular system though
5
Q
describe the BBB
A
- arachnod barrier–>tight junctions, and one-way valve arachnoid granulations
- blood-CSF barrier –> at level of choroid epi cells; also have tight junctions and are fenestrated (stuff can leave but not get in)
- the BBB proper–> barrier between brain ECF.tissue and capillaries; tight junctions; astrocutes help maintain tight junctions
6
Q
what are the actual spaces in the brain?
A
- between the periosteal and meningeal layers
- sagittal fissure, separate the two cerebral hemis
- transverse fissure –> separates occipital lobe and cerebellum
- venous sinuses
- subarachnoid space
