Lecture 8 - O And G Surgical Incisions Flashcards
Examples of common o and g surgical incisions?
- Lower segment Caesarean section (LSCS)
- Laparotomy
- Laparoscopy
- Abdominal (and vaginal) hysterectomy
What is a lower section c section?
the most commonly used type of Caesarean section. Most commonly to deliver the baby a transverse incision is made in the lower uterine segment above the attachment of the urinary bladder to the uterus.
Layers of anterolateral abdominal wall from outer to inner?
Skin
Subcutaneous tissues (further divided into the more superficial Camper’s fascia and the deeper Scarpa’s fascia)
External oblique muscle
Internal oblique muscle
Transversus abdominis muscle
Transversalis fascia
Parietal peritoneum
Features of external oblique muscles?
-Attach between lower ribs and iliac crest, pubic tubercle and linea alba
-Linea alba (strong fibrous midline structure)
-Fibres run in same direction as external intercostals
Features of internal oblique muscles?
-Attach between lower ribs, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest and linea alba
-Linea alba
-Fibres run in same direction as internal
intercostals
Features of transversus abdominis?
-Attach between lower ribs, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest and linea alba
-Linea alba
