Lecture 8 Flashcards
The rate at which a machine can cover a field while performing its intended function is one of the considerations in determining of the cost of operation of the machine
Field Performance
the rate of field coverage that would be obtained if the machine were performing its 100% of the time at the rated forward speed and always covering 100% of its rated width
Theoretical Field Capacity (TFC)
it is the actual coverage of the machine based on the total field time. Usually expressed as ha/hr
Actual Field Capacity or Effective Field Capacity
transverse distance between the cutting edges of the end discs at their depth of cut
Width of cut - disc plow
distance measured from the wing of share to the point of share
Width of cut - moldboard plow
if the width of the cut is less than the plow’s width; has passed over part of the area twice to better secure coverage
Overlap
if the width of cut is greater than the plow’s width, the operator has left part of the area
Unplowed
ratio of effective field capacity to theoretical field capacity expressed as percent
Field Efficiency
ratio of the rotational speed of a braked wheel to that of an equivalent free-rolling wheel expressed as percentage.
Wheel Slip
the rate at which an engine uses fuel
Fuel Consumption Rate
