Lecture 8 Flashcards
what are tips to draw the graph of a derivative function?
-plot where the max and mins are on the x-axis of the derivative graph
-if the original function is increasing then the derivative graph is above the x-axis
-if the original function is decreasing then the derivative graph is below the x-axis
what is a log plot?
a graph of both the x and y’s logged
what is a log scale?
a graph when only either x or y are logged
what does it mean if a log graph is linear?
it is an exponential or power function
how do you tell if a log graph is a quadratic function?
look for a curved shape
what is the tangent line like when f’(x)=0?
horizontal tangent line
what does it mean if a function is defined on an interval?
every x value corresponds to a y value
when does a derivative not exist on a graph?
cusp, jump, vertical tangent at point of interest
what does f (x) = f (−x)?
even symmetry
how do you find the phase shift of a periodic function?
set the bracket equal to zero
