What is the main purpose of Ask of intervention?
Identifying the documenting the current behavior you want to change.
EX: How much alcohol do you drink per day?
What is the main purpose of Advise of intervention?
Give info about health risks if not changed.
Give info about health benefits to reinforce change.
What is the main purpose of Assess of intervention?
Determining if the patient is willing to change their behavior.
What is the main purpose of Assist of intervention?
If PATIENT IS WILLING, use interventions to help make change.
What is the main purpose of Arrange of intervention?
Schedule short-interval follow-up with patient.
What are the 5 stages of change?
Precontemplation
Contemplation
Preparation
Action
Maintenance
What is the precontemplation stage?
Not even considering change.
Either due to denial/disbelief OR failed so many times they’ve lost hope ):
What is the contemplation stage?
Ambivalent about changing.
Giving up their behavior causes them to feel a sense of loss.
What is the preparation stage?
Preparing to make a specific change, often experimenting with small changes.
What is the action stage?
Actively pursuing a change.
Need encouragement, support, and praise still.
What is the maintenance stage?
RELAPSE PREVENTION.
Incorporating the new behavior for the long term.
Some patients may recycle a few times before their changes are fully established.

0-3mo
How often does the action stage last?
3-6mo
How often does the maintenance stage last?
6+ mo
