Lecture 7: EA value theory Flashcards

1
Q

What are the three main theories to explain the effects of EA?

A
  1. Resource based view (tamm et al)
  2. Decision theory (boh and Yellin)
  3. Technology acceptance (lange et al)

Q

What is the effect of the resource based view?

A
  • Value is created through key resources (VRIN, Valuable, rare, in-imitable, non-substitutable)
  • EA method and models help to acquire key resources and to develop EA capabilities
  • EA method and models -> specify key resources and capabilities -> value

(simply said: more EA resources lead to more EA capabilites that can create more business performance)

Q

What is the effect of the decision theory?

A
  • EA method and models help to make better decisions (on IT and business)
  • group and task type and technology -> decision process -> decision outcome (value)

(simply said: using EA models leads to changes in the decision process which leads in better IT decisions.)

Q

What is the effect of technology acceptance?

A
  • EA method and tools are technologies and technologies only bring value if used
  • Ease of use and usefulness -> intention to use -> use (value)

(simply said: more acceptance of the technology leads to more use of the technology, which leads to more business value)

Q

What does the research model of the resource based view look like (2015)?

A

EA service provision: EA assets (EA content, EA people) and EA capabilities (create EA content, create EA guidelines, create EA standards)

EA enabled organisational capabilities

  • Planning (align business and it, improve information, availability, facilitate acquisitions)
  • Operating platform (create flexible IT platform, optimise resource use)
  • Project delivery (optimise project portfolio, increase reuse)

Business value from EA

  • Organisational value (reduced costs, increased agility) (1,2)
  • Project value (reduced costs, delivered functionality)

Q

What variables are used in the research regarding decisions making?

A
  • Define Key Architecture Roles
  • Institutionalize mechanisms to involve key stakeholders
  • processes for monitoring EA standards
  • Centralize IT decision making

/Mediators/

outcomes:

  • Reduce heterogeneity of physical IT infrastructure
  • Reduce replication of IT infrastructure services
  • Business applications integration
  • Enterprise Data integration

Q

What two research questions were asked while researching the decision making theory?

A

(1) How do different governance mechanisms affect the use of EA standards?
(2) To what extent does the use of EA standards enable organizations to improve the sharing and integration of resources in an organization?

Q

What is the group decision theory?

A
  • How a ‘group decision process” influences “the outcome of the decision process”
  • How “group decision process” is influenced by four factors:
  1. “group characteristics”: group size, history, cohesiveness, etc
  2. “task characteristics”: complex, simple, type (negotiate/ decide/ solve/ etc)
  3. “context characteristics”: organization; culture; setting; etc.
  4. “technology characteristics”: which technologies are used in the process

Q

What are the four distinct EAM success factors? And what are two important EAM measures?

A

Factors:

(1) EAM product quality
(2) EAM infrastructure quality
(3) EAM service delivery quality
(4) EAM organizational anchoring

measures:

(1) intentions to use EAM
(2) organizational and project benefits

(EAM satisdaction was irrelevant, EAM organizational anchoring was the focal point)

Q

What does the research model of the technology acceptance theory look like?

A

EA infrastructure quality/EA service delivery quality (ease of use and usefulness)

EA organizational Anchoring and EA product quality (ease of use and usefulness)
