Lecture 2 Amin Flashcards
What is Information Technology?
Hardware, software, data, network, procedures, people.
Zachman v1992 says you need to have models for all these components to have a complete description of an information system/technology.
Why are models (blueprints) used?
For communication and understanding a phenomenon.
What is the difference between logical data models and conceptual data models?
Logical can not have N:N relationships (relational model)
Conceptual models can lack an identifier (entity relationship model)
Physical models include a data type
What is the role of CRUD?
Analyzing the current state of an organisation.
Suggest new processes based on missing C R U D (a tool for designing (to-be) state of an organization.
What models belong in the cells of Zachman framework’s ‘what’ column?
Executive perspective: list of important information and inventory required for business.
Business management perspective: conceptual model
Architectural perspective: physical model/relational model
Engineer perspective: physical data model
enterprise perspective: tables and data
What is the definition of EA according to Ross?
The organizing logic for business processes and IT infrastructure reflecting the integration and standardization of the company’s operating model
What are the rules of ZF?
there is flexibility in the level of detail; you can provide one or more diagrams in a cell
artifacts in a row must be consistent; cells in columns and rows must be integrated
