A
Refers to the enormous difference between the calculated and actual folding time of a protein

Theory of Folding Funnel
A
- Limited # of secondary structure elements
- Descent towards lowest energy state (native state)
- Non-native states go thru secondary intermediates on their way to the native state

How do chaperones assist in folding?
A
They bind to nascent polypeptides and stabilize them usually by associating w/hydrophobic residues
