Lecture 6 - Arrangement of different embryo cells in space Flashcards
What is a morphogen?
A molecule that defines two or more cell fates
at different concentrations
What is the flag pole model?
- Flag pole makes a signal for the blue cells
- Blue cells makes a signal for the white cells
- White cells makes a signal for the red cells
What is the role of the anchor cell in the development of the vulva in C.elegans?
Sends out signal causing vulva to be made from P5p, P6p, and P7p
What happens if you destroy the anchor cell?
The vulva doesn’t develop
True or False? Any cell from P3p to P8p can become the vulva
True
What does the concentration of Lin-3 determine?
The primary and secondary cell fates
What happens to a LIN-12 LOF mutant?
No secondary cells
What happens to a LIN-12 GOF mutant?
Too many secondary cells
What is Lin-12?
A receptor
What signals from the primary is needed to activate Lin-12?
- Apx1
- Lag2
- Dsl1
What cell does Lin-3 drive towards?
Primary cell
What cell does Lin-12 drive towards?
Secondary cell
What is the relationship between Lin-3 and Lin-12?
Lin-3 signalling regulates Lin-12 expression
What is Morphogenesis?
Taking on a new shape
What happens during to the mesoderm in Drosophila?
- Needs to be inside
- Moved inside via invagination
