Lecture 6 Flashcards
What are the physical and chemical growth requirements for microbes?
Physical- Temp., pH, Osmotic Pressure, Hydrostatic Pressure
Chemical- carbon (DNA, proteins, carbohydrate, fat)
-nitrogen, phosphorous, and sulfur (DNA/protein)
-trace elements (chemical reactions & enzyme co-factors)
-oxygen (energy production/respiration)
How will microbial growth be affected if *Temperature increases or decreases? Think about the protein and Lipids
( Protein:) High Temp= denatures protein Low Temp= reduces protein activity ( Lipids: ) Low Temp.= become rigid and fragile High Temp= become too fluid and cannot contain the cell or organelle
Psychrophile, Mesophile, Thermophile and Hyperthermophiles is in which classification based on its optimum growth?
A- PH
B-Osmotic Pressure
C-Temperature
C-Temperature
Which of the following would be seen at optimum growth temperature ( 35’C-41’C) for microorganisms that typically grow abundantly around humans
A- Psychrophile
B- Mesophile
C-Hyperthermophiles
B- Mesophile
Which of the following is a Cold-loving Microbe. Typically in (-4’C) - (20’C). Optimum growth temperature 10 degrees C . Found in arctic
