Lecture 6 Flashcards
1
Q
How are the Kp and Kc expressions related
A
Kp = Kc(RT)^delta(n)
–> delta(n) = sum of coefficients of gaseour P - sum of coefficients of gaseous R
REMEMBER: pure liquids/solids are not included in equilibrium expressions
2
Q
What does the equilibrium constant allow to predict?
A
- If reaction will occur
- The equilibrium position that will be attained
NOTE: tells us NOTHING about rate/speed of reaction
3
Q
What is the reaction quotient (Q) and what does it tell us about the equilibrium
A
Similar to equilibrium constant, but for NON-EQUILIBRIUM conditions
Q = K –> reaction is at equilibrium
Q < K –> equilibrium will proceed towards the right
Q > K –> equilibrium will proceed towards the left
