Lecture 6 - 1/12 (Gluconeogenesis) Flashcards
1
Q
Biotin
A
carries CO2 for carboxylation
2
Q
transanimation
A
moving amine group (e.g. from pyruvate to alanine)
3
Q
Glucose phosphatase
A
Used in last step of gluconeogenesis and only happens in the liver because that’s the only place the gene for glucose 6-phosphatase is expressed. It is in the liver (and kidney) cells ER lumen.
4
Q
Oxaloacetate
A
4-C transitionary state between pyruvate and PEP. reduced to malate in order to be moved to the cytoplasm.
5
Q
Pyruvate carboxylate
A
Not in the cytoplasm. Only in the mitochondria. So must shuttle pyruvate into the mitochondrial matrix to do carboxylation.
6
Q
Pyruvate dehydrogenase
A
Multiple subunits. carries out the oxidation of pyruvate.
- decarboxylation
- oxidation
- transfer to CoA
