lecture 5 notes Flashcards
the fibers of the sternocleidomasoid run
diagonal
what muscle is the #1 muscle for cervical rotation
sternocleidomastoid
what does the SCM do unilaterally?
lateral flexion of neck to same side and rotates it so your face is toward the oppiste direction
what does the SCM do bilaterally?
-extends the neck at the atlanto-occiptial joint (OA joint)
-flexes cervical verterbae (making double chin)
-extends top vertebrae while flexion inferior vertebrae (move chin foward while head is kpet level)
the SCM splits the neck region into
- anterior cervical region (anterior triagnle)
- lateral cervical region (posterior triangle)
- posterior cervical region
muscles of anterior cervical region
suprahyoids
infrahyoids
muscles of the suprahyoids
-mylohyoid
-digastric
-stylohyoid
-geniohyoid
the digastric has an
anterior and posterior belly
muscles of the infrahyoids
thyrohyoid
-sternothyroid
-omohyoid
-sternohyoid
omo-
shoulder
anterior board of the anterior cervical region (anterior triangle)
the median line of the neck
posterior boarder of the anterio triagnle
the anterior border of the SCM
the superior boundary of the anterior triagnle is formed by the
inferior border of the mandible
an apex is located where in the anterior traingle
at the jugular notch in the manubrium
the roof of the anterior triagnle is formed by
subcutaneous tissue containing the platysma
the floor of the anterior triangle is formed by
pharynx, larynx, and the thyroid gland
the anterior cervical region contains what other trianlges inside of it?
-submandibular
-submental
-carotid
-muscular )omotracheal
carotid traingle contains which muscles
superior belly of omohyoid ,posterior belly of digastric , anterior belly of SCM
what artery is found inside of the carotid triangle
common carotid artery
what vien is found inside of the carotid triangle
internal jugular
carotid triangle contents incude
carotid sinus and body
carotid sinus
barorecptors - pressure
carotid body
chemoreceptors - chemical
where does the CCA turn into the internal and external carotid artery
C3, C4
anterior margin of the lateral cervical region
posterior boarder of the SCM
posterior margin of the lateral cervical region
anterior border of the traps
inferior margin of the lateral cervical region
middle 3rd of the clavicle between the traps and the SCM
where is the apex in the lateral cervical region
where the SCM and traps meet on the superior muhcal line of the occipital bone
what is the roof of the laterla cervical region formed of
the investion layer of deep cervical fascia
the floor of the lateral cervical region is formed by
muscles covered by the prevertebral layer of deep cervical fascia
the lateral cervcial region wraps around the lateral surface of the neck like a
spiral
the region of the lateral cervical region is covered by
skin and subcutaneous tissue containing the platysma
what muscle passes thru the lateral triangle and divides into two
omohyoid
the posterior triangle contents include
scalenes , levator scapulae , splenius capitis , omohyoid (inferior belly)
what are the nerves in the neck
accessory nerve , suprascapular nerve, phrenic nerve, and brachial plexus
the phrenic never is from ..
C 3, 4 ,5
nerves start where
the brain and moves down
arteries start where
the heart and move up
the cervical plexus is what nerves
C1-C5
what forms the roots of the cervical plexus
anterior rami
what is the ansa cervicalls
the loop of nerves that has other nerves coming off of it
what is the dermatomes of the greater occipital
C2
what is the dermatomes of the third occipital
C3
what is the dermatomes of the lesser occipital
C2
what is a contraction or shortening of the cervical nuscles that produces twisting of the neck and slanting of the head
torticollis
the most common tyoe of torticollis results from ___ ____ __ that develops in the ____ ___ ___
fibrous tissue tumor ; SCM
CN XI (spinal assecory nerve) lesion affects what muscles
SCM and traps
lesions of the spinal sccessory nerve may be caused by
penetrating tramua , surgical proedcure in the lateral cervical region, tumors at the cranial base, or fractures of the jugular foramen
the prevertebral neck muscles are associated with
OA joints
the prevertebral neck muscles can be damaged by
whiplash
the hyoid bones are at what levels of vertebrae?
C3 and C4
the neck is divided into how mnay triangle regions
