Answer 1

Introducing an IT system without changing the organization of the company or organizational innovation without changing the IT system. There are more benefits of jointly introducing a new IT system with organizational change because the two can complement each other.

Give an example of a complete substitute technology

Answer 2

A computer numerically controlled machine (CNC) replacing a non-CNC machine. Once the CNC machine is introduced the older machine is obsolete. This is a complete substitute.

Give an example of a partial substitute technology.

Answer 3

Having a mobile phone in combination with a fixed landline phone. The mobile has less geographical coverage but is “mobile”, while the fixed phone has large geographical coverage but isn’t mobile. This combination is called partial substitutes.
