Describe Infection as a serious pathology
main feature = fever
most common area = vertebral body
most frequent symptom = pain
most frequent sign = muscle spasm
Describe Inflammatory Disease
morning stiffness >30 mins
symptoms persisting longer than 3 months
non responsive to treatment
Describe ankolysing sponylitis
2% in aus
deep ache in or across butt
pain in the front of the chest of between scap
Describe Cauda Equina
compression of multiple lumbar/sacral nerve roots
can cause sphyncter dysfuntion, bilateral motoe weakness, saddle anaesthesia
Describe Spinal Stenosis
> 65 yrs
hypertrophic degenerative process in spine leads to crititcal narrowing : OA, disc bulge
presents as burning pain, increase symptoms with ext, decrease with flexion
Describe osteoporosis
decrease in bone density - increase risk of fracture
What are some Red Flags in children with LBP
fever
night pain
progressive pain not responding to analgesia
severe constipation
