What is ethics?
Ethics is the philosophical study of morality
What is the social contact theory
Set of rules on how people can and can’t be treated
It’s in everyone’s best interest to stick to these rules
Have a right to life
Others have a duty not to kill you
What is utilitarianism?
Of the actions that are available to you, you choose the ones that make you the happiest
What is relavitism?
There is no right and wrong
Different cultures and groups have a different set of rules
Subjective relavitism is individual to yourself
What is kantianism
Actions are guided by moral laws
Moral laws are universal and applicable to everyone
What is whistleblowing?
Making a disclosure in the public interest
What is a whistleblower
A whilstle blower is someone who brings attention to a negligence, abuses or dangers that threaten the public interest from within an organisation
When is a whistleblower protected
If your a worker
Believe the malpractice is happening, or will happen in the future
Reveal the right type of information (qualifying disclosure)
Reveal it to the right person
What could the disclosures be about?
Criminal offenses Not complying with a legal obligation Miscarriages of justice Threats to health and safety Environmental damage Covering up any above
