Lecture 5&7 Flashcards
Name the different stakeholders in the air cargo supply chain.
Shipper, freight forwarder, logistic service provider, ground handlers, airlines, airports, consignee.
Name the 2 different carriers:
Passenger aircraft (belly space) {higher frequency and more destinations) and full freighters (more capacity).
The key differences between passengers and cargo:
There are much fewer stakeholders in the cargo industry and the value of time for freight is different, only the delivery date matters.
What do you know about cargo on passenger airlines:
Passengers have priority over cargo, belly space is available for especially emergency cargo.
What do you know about full cargo airlines and integrators.
Only full freighters are operated, flight schedules can be geared to better accomodate shippers’ needs, multi-hub structure
Fleet assignment is
the process of assigning different airfract types of different capacities to the scheduled flights. Its considered to have the second most significant impact on airline profits. The assignments are based on aircraft type characteristics and capabilities, fleet type and size, op costs and potential revenues.
Aircraft routing is
the process of determining the set of lifht legs that each aircraft will cover withing a rotation given that is ends at the same location from where it started.
Crew Scheduling is
the process of assigning different crews to suitable aircraft. It should account for the large number of restrictive rules.
Flight scheduling is:
designing a timetable of flights that specifies the covered origins and destinations along with departure and arrival times.
