Q

What are pseudomons?

A

Small Gram negative rods with single polar flagelleum .

  • unbiqutous and colnizes plants and animals.
  • pseudomons are important decomposers and bioremediators.
  • Use oxidase and catalase
  • pigmented

Q

Whats the most important characteristic of pseudomons?

A

Theyre decomposers and they do not ferment carboyhydrates and use aeroic respiration.

-they produce acid from carbohydates but only in the presence of oxygen,

Q

Pseudomonas aeruginosa clincal importance:

A
  • Commonly live in soil and water.
  • Theyre part of normal flora of 10% of people.
  • Contaminat IV and ventilators and anesthesia equipment.
  • Resistant to soap, dyes, drugs and drying

MOST IMPORTANTLY THEYRE OPPURTUNISTIC PATHOGENS (for example burn victims get it)

Q

What makes pseudomonas an oppurtunisitc pathogen>

A

Because it usually targets burn victims.

  • Nosocomial
  • Causes skin and eye irratation
  • common rrspiratory problems with patients of cystic fibrosis

Q

Why does Cystic fbrosis allows pseudomones areguinosa to thrive?

A

-Because cystic fibrosis causes hypersecretion of mucus.
PA flourishes in thcik membrane to grow plaque a& the plaque growth causes the attraction of neutrophiles and causes inflammation.

Q

PA biofilm makes it worse for the patient why?

A

Because it requires flagella type IV ili and over production of alginate.

BIO FILm is thick and makes it resistant to antibiotics and phagocytosis

Q

What is the manifestations of exotoxin A? Why is it so shitty?

A

COz its potent inhibitor of ADP ribosylation of elongation factor 2

SO IT KILLS EPITHELIAL CELLS VIA APEPTOTIC or non apeptotic mechanisms.
