Lecture 5 Flashcards
What is a double dissociation ?
Patient X can understand language but not speak it
Patient Y can speak language but not understand it.
Their lesions are in two different distinct areas
What is a single dissociation?
Basically a correlation. The lesion to this area explains this behaviours deficit. But it’s only an inference not a causation.
What’s the problem with a single dissociation?
It might just be that the lesion effects the connectivity or the White matter of that function, so another area might be responsible for that ability and your lesion just effects the loop or is a minor Part.
What is the importance of double dissociations?
For determining which part of the brain is responsible for certain behaviours
