What is authoritarianism ?
the outcome of repressed anger toward authority figures (parents)
What is authoritarian submission ?
tendency to submit to “authorities perceived to be established and legitimate”
What is authoritarian aggression ?
”..aggresiveness, direct against [ subversives], that is perceived to be sanctioned by established authorities”
What is conventionalism ?
Adherence to social conventions “perceived to be endorsed by society and its established authorities”
What is social dominance orientation ?
reflects the general desire to establish and maintain hierarchically structured intergorup relations regardless of the position of one’s own group(s) within this hierarchy
What is SDO dominance ?
desire to actively oppress particular groups
What is SDO-anti-egalitarianism ?
preference for inequality
What is the social dominance theory ?
evolutionary and societal variables promote ideologies in which people seek to minimize group conflict using legitimizing myths that rationalize the dominance of one group over another
What are hierachy-enhancing myths ?
justify group-based oppression
What is hierachy-attenuating myths ?
counter dominance
