There are three different ways on how to become a celebrity, what are those?
1) Ascribed: Royal family
2) Achieved: Model, Top cyclist
3) Attributed: Participating in temptation island
Why do we show interest in celebrities?
1) Information: Social norms on how to behave in society
2) Entertainment: Gossip make you feel better about your own life
3) Role modelling: Inspiration for identity development
4) Social bonding: Parasocial interactions ‘intimate social interaction with a media figure’
What are the three stages in the absorption-addiction model?
Innocent:
Glorifying celebrity mostly for entertainment
Absorption:
More intense, Parasocial relationships
Addiction:
Negative behaviours, such as stalking
Explain the relationship continuum.
On the left ‘Intimate’:
Sex, date, partner.
To the right ‘parasocial’:
Fantasy, celebrity, reading.
What do ‘Personal factors’ and ‘Situational factors’ mean in the general aggression model?
They are the background variables and explain the context. Personal factors could be you’re a more aggressive person. Situational factors could be e.g. a friend is involved in cyberbullying.

What does the cognition node mean in the general aggression model?
Everything that happens in your head, so what you think about it.
What does the affect node mean in the general aggression model?
Everything that has to do with your emotions.
What does the arousal node mean in the general aggression model?
Everything that has to do with physiological responses, like increased heart rate or sweating.
What are parasocial relationships? Are they always positive?
Parasocial relationships are relationships between an individual and someone that don’t know them. No it could lead to addiction.
To which youth development perspective can we link the idea of parasocial relationships?
It can be linked to the developmental tasks approach. It would fall into the adolescence stage, because this is focused on forming an identity.
Regarding the ‘parasocial continuum’ where would you put:
1) Giving a like to a post of a celeb
2) Asking a question in direct messages to an influencer
3) Writing a comment on a post of a ‘virtual influencer’
1) Middle right, there is no interaction but it is a human being
2) In the middle, it has more interaction
3) Far right, because it is virtual.
How does the spiral effect relate to parasocial relationships.
A person would not mention his parasocial relationship because the public think it’s strange.
