Lecture 4 Protein Structure Flashcards
Peptide bond Primary
When there is a linear line of
Peptide bond secondary
Alpha and beta
Peptide bond tertiary
Final fold form
usually due to the hydrophobic effect fold in this fashion so non polar resdiues on the inner and polar on the inner
Single peptide chain
Quaternary structure
Comprised of more than one polypeptide chain
Can be a dimmer trimer or tetramers etc
Coiled coiled
2alpha helices
Parallel and Anti-Parallel
Parallel: same direction
Anti: opposite
Beta Sheets
Can run Parallel or anti parallel
found in center of gobbler proteins
Domain
A stable and compactly fold structure that is built from combination of secondary structures
Understand the importance protein structure and function in relation to DZ
Prion DZ when the B were improperly folded and can file properly folded A and leads to down stream effects
Describe the levels of protein structure and the role of H-Bonds in forming Secondary Structures and hydrophobic effect in relation to R groups
For tertiary structure the R groups that are non polar will go towards the center via hydrophobic effect
