What is the federalist school ?
In 1790 an ideology emerged : they wanted to reinforce the federal power and wanted a strong central government.

What is the Republican school?
Also called anti-federalists they were attacked to the idea of a democratic society protecting individual liberties.

Thomas Jefferson.

In 1792

Jefferson in 1800
What is the democrtaic national commitee ?
It was created in 1848 and this party is the largest running political organization iun the world.
What is the symbol of the democrats ?
It’s the “D” and the democratic donckey.
When was the creation of the republican party and why ?
The republican party was created in 1854 to oppose teh extension of slavery.
What was the republican party’s name then ?
Grand old party.
Who was the first republican president ?
It was Abraham Lincoln in 1860

What is the main difference between the 2 parties nowadays ?
The republican are more conservative.
What did Abraham Lincoln had to do during his term ?
He had to preserve the country because there was the civil war.
How did the 2 parties evolved ?
The Republican party was created at first to oppose slavery (now Trump is the president of the republican party). Also the democratic used to be conservative in the past.
What can we say about the democrat’s ideas ?
Democrats believe in more governement intervention.
- –> The governement should be responsible of the economic disparities and the well-being of the citizen.
- Democrats tend to be in favor of gun’s control and abortion rights.
When was the democratic party transformed ?
The democratic party was transformed in 1930 because Frankilin Roosewelt (president at that time) had to face the Great Depression, the crush of 1929.
What can we say about the republican’s ideas ?
- Reduce governement spending
- Less government intervention in the economics
- Minimum regulation of buisness, law taxes
- Believe in individual responsability (everyone can work to improve their lives)
- More conservative, traditional values and family.
What is the “invisible hand theory” and who made it ?
It’s a theory that believes that if everyone thinks about his own interests, that will help general wealth. (Adam Smith)
Are there any other parties ?
Yes, the green party, the socialists, the communists, the liberataion party
They are not important they have very low representation
Sometimes they win local election but very rarely national elections.
How is the american economy nowadays ?
It’s good, the unemployment rate is very low : 3.7%
What are the current issues in the US ?
- A lot of worries about the Trade war against China (People start to feel it especially in the states that voted for Trump)
- Illegal immigration (how to secure the border?)
- Health care ; democrats want to improve it and republican wants to destroy it.
