How is distributed the population of the US ?
Unevenly populated : 80% of the population lives in cities and suburban areas.
What is the most populated city? How many people are there?
New York, more than 8 million people live there.
What is the 2nd most populated city?
It’s LA.
What is the 3rd most populated city?
It’s Chicago
What is the 4th most populated city?
Houston
What are the 5th most populated cities?
Philadelphia and Phoenix.

Do Americans move a lot? How much?
Yes. 15 to 70 % of families move every year.
Are some states more attractive? If yes, what are the most attractive states?
Yes.
Arizona, California, Colorado and Florida are the most attractive states.
How are amercians moving? How much?
The center of gravity is moving to the West. 17% of the population is moving totm the West.
What is the sunbelt?
Region southern and southern western United States : mild (doux) winter and rapid population growth
Why kind of regions people are attracted to?
Sunny regions
What is the Frost belt (or Rust belt) ?
Northeast or Midwest, coldeat region with phase of deindustrialisation
How do we call the most attractive and sunny region? And where is it?
The sunbelt, it’s in the South and in the southwest

How is the age of the population evolving? Give proofs
Americans are getting older. The population is aging.
In 1800 amercians that were 65 and older represented 4% of the population, in 2016, they represented 50% of the population.
Why is the American population aging?
1) It’s the baby boom generation getting older.
2) Women tend to have fewer children than in the past. —> fertility rate during the baby boom : 3,07/now : 1,76
What problem due to the aging population do Americans face?
The same problem as most “ advanced “ populations : they have to pay retirement pensions (retraite)
What are the 4 most populous states?
New York, California, Texas and Florida
Are Americans religious?
Yes, very.
Is it conventional to find an industrial nation so religious?
Yes, in most of them, religion is not important.
What are the important data/numbers one needs to know about religion?
9 out of 10 americans believe in God.
55% of Americans pray at least once per day.
36% of Americans pray at least once a week
71% of Americans identify as christians, the most of them are protestant.
Are people equally religious depending in which regions they live?
No there a difference between rural and urban envrionnement.
Where are located the most religious people?
In the Bible Belt which is the South.
What are the most religious states?
Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina.
Out of 100 people how many are Muslim? Christians? Jews?
71 people are Christians, 1 is Jew, 1 Muslim
Is there a separation between the church and the state in the Us?
Yes, it’s metionned in the 1st amendment.
How is the state and society so influenced by religion ? Give examples
Americans constantly refer to God :
“In God we trust” Is printed on the dollar bill
The president swears on the Bible
God is mentioned in the national anthem
