Q

What is the difference between criterion-referenced tests & norm-referenced tests?

A

learning objective no.2

  • both tests may have items which high scorers get correct & low scorers get incorrect
  • Norm-referenced tests - this makes it a good item
  • however on a Criterion-referenced test, this is not what makes it a good item
  • Criterion-referenced tests -
    • a good item checks whether a certain criteria is met
    • e.g., when knowledge or mastery required e.g., doctor of medicine
