What is the filioque clause?
Filioque literally means “and the son”, referring to the addition in the Nicene creed after the phrase “the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father”.
What did Athanasius believe about the Holy Spirit? (Two parts)
Athanasius believed that the Holy Spirit is consubstantial with God, and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts is what allows us fellowship with God.
Define Immanent Trinity.
This is the relationship internal to the Trinity, as it has existed eternally.
What did Barth and Helmut Thielicke see as important in the filioque clause?
They concerned that if we see God sending both the Spirit and the Son, it implies we have some direct contact with God through the Spirit rather than owing everything to Christ and the cross.

Macedonius believed the Holy Spirit was the highest being of creation, but still a creature.
