lecture 4 - client consultation and fitness testing protocols Flashcards
what is the purpose of a client consultation and health appraisal
- screen participants for risk factors and symptoms of chronic cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic and orthopaedic diseases
- safety and legality
- get to know your client and establish specific goals for training
describe the steps of a client consultation
- schedule interview appointment
- conduct interview
- implement and complete health appraisal forms
- Evaluate for coronary risk factors, diagnosed disease and lifestyle
- assess and interpret results
- refer to allied health professional when necessary
- obtain medial clearance and program recommendations
why should someone do client testing?
- assess talent and / or initial fitness levels
- identify physical abilities in need of improvement
- set goals
- evaluate processes
functions of baseline data
- baseline for future comparisons for improvement of rate of progress
- ID of current strengths and weaknesses that may affect program emphasis on specific components
- assist establishing appropriate intensities and volumes of exercise
- assist in clarification of short, intermediate and long term goals
- ID areas of potential injury or contradictions prior to program initiation
define the term validity
degree to which a test or test items measures what it is supposed to measure
define the term reliability
measure of the degree of consistency or repeatability to measure
intra-personal reliability
my results are the same every time
inter-personal reliability
the explanation of tests are kept the same
face reliability
test appears to test what it is supposed to test
criterion validity
extent to which tests are associated with some other measure of the same ability
what is the sequence of assessments
non-fatiguing to most fatiguing
describe norm- referenced standards
the comparison of the performance of an individual against the performance of others in like category
describe criterion referenced standards
combo of normative data and expert opinion to determine health standards
describe the process of developing a client profile
- select tests that will measure the specific parameters most closely related to the characteristics of the sport or activity in question
- choose valid and reliable tests to measure the parameters and arrange the testing battery in appropriate order with sufficient rest between tests and promote test reliability
- compare the normative data when appropriate
- conduct repeat testing before and after testing and use the results to present a visual profile with figures
- identify the strengths and weaknesses of your client and design the training program with these in mind
what are the tests to test body composition and athropometry
height, weight, skinfolds, girth measurements
what are the tests to test flexibility
sit and reach, overhead squat, shoulder flexibility, thomas test
what are the tests to test agility and anaerobic power
t-test, hexagon test, pro-agility, margaria-kalamen test, vertical jump, reactive strength index
what is the test to test muscular endurance
sit-up test, push-up test
