Q

Excitation (Acquisition)

A

pairing the CS to the US
evoking or building up a response in a system, that continues in different contexts
when the CR and UR are the same, need a test trial to isolate the CR
same number of trials to get to a certain response, but intensity of UR can determine intensity of CR

Q

Extinction (Inhibition)

A

extinguishing the CR by presenting CS without US many times

modifies the learning, but doesn’t delete it

Q

Spontaneous Recovery

A

after extinction two weeks later the dogs will exhibit the same response as before

Q

Renewal

A

after extinction, if we’re in a new context some of the response will still occur
context is more important for extinction

Q

Generalization

A

animal responds maximally to the stimulus it was trained to respond to, but will still respond to similar stimuli

Q

Discrimination

A

two trials occur at once
1. CS+ : CS1 gets associate to a US
2. CS- : CS2 is presented alone
Early on, will exhibit learning to both, but then starts to discriminate

Q

Disinhibition

A

uses a distractor that grabs your attention, then even if you have been extinguished you will exhibit the original response
shows that acquisition/excitation is stronger than extinction/inhibition, because it can be distracted but acquisition can’t
