Lecture 35 Flashcards
How can job demands be matched to worker capabilities?
In a large population - alter the job to fit worker capacity (ie. limit weight to be carried) or select workers for the task (ie. select one with a higher vo2max) or train the workforce (select and train)
What are the advantages of a predictive test versus simulation test?
predictive test is less accurate, but easily done. Ie vo2max measurement, 2.4km runs etc
simulation is much more accurate, failure in the test means failure in real life as it simulates. Hard to test when there are a large number of tasks present, cant simulate all of them
What happens to vo2max as sustainable worktime increases?
decreases
Why should say a march have the soldier at submaximal v02max?
If the march had him at maximal v02max, he will be fatigued if he were to be engaged along the way. ie an ambush etc
How does temperature play a role in impacting performance?
Higher temperatures will increase weight to be carried as they need water to stay hydrated.
Why are females disadvantaged?
From their body weight and v02max
What percentile of women complete a given task compared to men?
Women - 90 percentile complete the task
Men - 60 percentile complete the task
Describe how the environment can impact performance
The environment most often isn’t ideal and straight, is full of hills and downhill terrain and danger to be navigated, slows progress and decreases performance
