  • females choose because costly investment, limited supply of eggs, 9mths gestation, dangerous birth.

  • found that artificially enhanced tails led to greater mating success.
  • Females preferred to mate with males with longer tails.

Edme et al (2017)
- found that there are different benefits of male ornaments and female mate choice between population and species.

A

Fisher- fisherman runway.

Positive feedback between heritable ornaments and preferences.
Due to females preferences birds may inherit the preference for brightness as well as benign bright themselves.
