Lecture 3: Homeostasis Body Compartments, connections, and tissues Flashcards
3 major cavities of the body
CRANIAL: (aka skull) contains brain
THORACIC: (aka thorax) bounded by spine, ribs, and diaphragm
Abdominopelvic: (abdomen +pelvis)
1. abdomen: stomach intestines, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys
2. pelvis: reproductive organs, bladder, terminal part of large intestine
what are the fluid-filled anatomical compartments that have lumens?
lumens = space inside
circulatory system: heart and blood vessels
eyes: aqueous and vitreous humor compartments
cerebrospinal fluid (CSF): surround brain and SC
what body cavities are part of the thoracic cavity?
- pleural sac (lungs)
- pericardial sac (heart)
what are the two cavities within the abdominopelvic cavity?
- abdominal cavity
- pelvic cavity
What are the two cavities that are not grouped together with anything else?
- cranial cavity
- diaphragm
what are all of the anatomical body cavities?
- cranial cavity
Thoracic Cavity:
2. pleural sac (lungs)
3. pericardial sac (heart)
- Diaphragm
Abdominopelvic Cavity
5. Abdominal Cavity
6. Pelvic Cavity
